You can walk or cycle from the hotel, go swimming boating and diving from the nearest beach or a short drive will get you to birdwatching, horseriding and golf. From the hotel itself, there are circular walks ranging from 45 minutes to six hours in length. The shorter walks take you around the village, along the river or on the foothills of the mountains which faces the hotel. The more intrepid can explore the Sierra de Tramuntana range, circle the blue waters of Lake Cuber and reach the summits of Sa Rateta (3556 ft.) and L'Ofre (3580 ft.). There are many well sign-posted mountain pathways in the area that offer the knobbly-wheeled explorer a challenging and varied range of riding surfaces. Fast bridleways swoop past mountain lakes. Complex, rocky single-track twists steeply down through narrow valleys. At a lower level, long stretches of occasionally cobbled path wind through the many citrus groves and on into villages. A wide, sandy beach and safe water (lifeguards on duty) provide an ideal family swimming venue. Pedaloes are also for hire. For those who like to be away from the crowd and more adventurous, head for the rugged coastline of Calle Tuent (a 45 minute drive) to pitch camp on the rocks and dive into the water from there. Or, hire a boat from Puerto Soller, drop the anchor and choose your own swimming spot. The island is becoming increasingly popular among all year round golfers wanting to escape the cold and rain sodden courses back home. Closest to Fornalutx, we would recommend the 18 hole course at Bunyola which was opened in 1998. Sailing boats and windsurfing equipment can be hired from the Centro Nautico Port de Soller and speed boats can be hired for the half day or a full day to explore the coastline up to Formentor in the north or down to Deia. Or, a day's sightseeing to see the ancient cathedral and the excellent museums and art galleries? There is no need to drive or take a taxi. The little wooden, single gauge railway was opened in 1912 to link Soller to the capital and has been running ever since, up to eight times a day during the high season. For keen photographers, there are two special "panoramic" rides a day which allow you to get out and take photographs of the Soller valley. A journey into the past and great views – all for 2.50 euros each way. The evening return train from Palma gets you back in time to sample the tapas bars and restaurants of Soller. </div> </tD> <tD VALIGN=TOP><NOBR><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="1x1.gif" HEIGHT="379" ALIGN="bottom" WIDTH="-2" HSPACE="0" VSPACE="0"></NOBR></tD> <tD VALIGN=TOP WIDTH="199"><div> <B>Description:</B> Constructed in 1913, the tramway from the town of Soller to the Port is one of the most charming (and cheapest!) tourist attractions in the area. For only one euro, you can board one of the little wooden carriages at the stop just outside the train station in Soller for the 20 minute ride. The tram rattles and hoots its way through orange and lemon groves and then turns right along the shore of Puerto Soller for great views of the sandy beach and attractive harbour with its collection of ferries, yachts and fishing boats. Stop here for a swim and lunch at one of the fish restaurants before taking the tram back. Park the car by the dam, take out your binoculars and and you won't have to wait long to see Ospreys fishing in the reservoir. Look out for Spectacled Warblers, Tawny Pipits and Short-toed Larks. Rock thrushes breed in the small quarry beyond the dam where you might also see Eleonoras Falcon.
